WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

Special Report - Shaping a Multiconceptual World

At the World Economic Forum, we used our global summits and workshops as one of the ways we connect business leaders, academia policy-makers, media and civil society to collaborate and solve the world’s problems. When Covid took over how we interact, our reliance on in-person relationship building and collaboration shifted to virtual.

Challenge: We found that a large number of people in the organization were suddenly responsible for visual content (virtual presentation and materials) without having basic design skills.

Solution: We designed a 90-minute class to bring Forum employees up to speed on the principles of visual communication including communication theory and design thinking as well as the basics of typography, layout, colour and multimedia storytelling. In addition to co-instructing the training, I also worked on a promotional video.

Process

We knew from the beginning we wanted to show a progression in visual style to mimic the skills progression we’re claiming the course will give. So we want attendees to turn their boring monotonous presentations to vibrant and energetic and do the same with the visual application from a b&w palette to full color.
